What is Counselling?

Counselling is form of talking therapy that involves a trained therapist listening to you and helping you find ways to deal with emotional issues. Counselling may help with the following?

  • a mental health condition, such as anxiety disorder, depression, addiction and obsessive compulsive disorder

  • an upsetting physical health condition or illness that is causing or is affected by mental illness

  • a difficult life event, such as a relationship breakdown or work-related stress

  • difficult emotions – for example, negativity, a lack of resilience, low self-esteem or anger

  • other issues that have been identified by a GP or other specialist.

 

At your appointment, you'll be encouraged to talk about triggers, problems, feelings, emotions and behaviour. The therapist will listen, guide and support you without judging or criticising.

Active listening, clear discussion and empathy is the key. The therapist can help you gain a better understanding of your feelings and thought processes, and find your own solutions to problems. But they will not usually give advice or tell you what to do.

 

Session information

I like to have a no obligation free 'realisation' session via video call or phone chat. This will last 1 hour to 1.5 hours. We will discuss  the problems, the illness, and whether we can work together. If its decided we can, then commitment is key. I advise that the client books a 6 session package. This is made up of 40 minute sessions, ongoing support, and materials to help and support. £300 may seem a lot but this could be the best investment you make. After the 6 sessions we will review progress and decide whether another 6 sessions is required. I will always consider concessions for students and those on low incomes. I have set days where I practice but have availability after work and on the occasional weekend day. 

I see clients from across Bristol and Bath in a convenient, comfortable venue. I also have clients from across the UK who have sessions with me via video call. I put a lot of work into my client sessions, before, during and after, so I believe that my prices are very reasonable. However I expect good communication, hard work, punctuality, positivity, the development of good habits and attention to the dimensions of wellness.
