Mental Health First Aid Training

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is an internationally recognised course that can be delivered in a classroom, or virtually via an online platform. Accredited by the Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH), this course is for private individuals and employers who would like to build their confidence and knowledge in order to spot the signs and symptoms of mental illness in the workplace and/or their private lives. It provides individuals with the tools to help guide, support and encourage those struggling with a crisis.

 

To become a Mental Health First Aider you must complete a two day MHFA course, which includes a mix of presentations, discussions and group work activities. For more information on the course content, please read the course details and FAQs below:

Course details:

  • Adult MHFA courses take place over 2 days (4 days online), for 8 - 16 participants and are for individuals aged 16 and above.

  • The course is accredited by the Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH) and participants attending the course will receive an MHFA Manual and workbook as well as a certificate from Mental Health First Aid England.

  • There is no formal assessment for this course however delegates must complete the pre course learning activities and all sections of the course, which is delivered through a mix of presentations, workshop activities and group discussions. 

  • Availability across England, with the course being run at either your location or at a meeting space near you.

  • What is the role of a Mental Health First Aider?
    A mental health first aider's role in the workplace is to act as a first point of contact for anyone struggling with a mental health issue. They provide support and guidance to their colleagues, as well as being an advocate for mental wellbeing in the workplace and endorsing positive change. In the role as mental health first aider, they should be comfortable discussing mental health issues and be able to provide colleagues with basic advice, as well as encouraging them to access relevant resources to help them with their problems. A business can benefit from having mental health first aiders on site to help spot the signs and symptoms of developing mental illness and intervening before it escalates into a much bigger issue. They are not qualified to diagnose what mental health condition a person is suffering from but can offer valuable help and guidance to colleagues to make their working life easier.
  • What will I gain by become a mental health first aider?
    Your will gain: ​ An in depth understanding of mental health and the factors that can affect well-being. Practical skills to spot the triggers and signs of a range of mental health issues. Confidence to step in, reassure and support a person in distress using the Mental Health First Aid action plan. Enhanced interpersonal skills such as non-judgemental listening. Knowledge to help someone recover by guiding them to further support, whether self-help resources, internal support such as EAP, or external sources such as their GP. Understanding of how to keep themselves safe while performing their duties.
  • How do I become a mental health first aider?
    To become a Mental Health First Aider, you need to undertake the relevant 2-day training course either face-to-face or online. The course qualifies you as a Mental Health First Aider and provides you with an in-depth knowledge and understanding of mental health and the factors affecting an individual’s wellbeing. The course has been developed to be delivered either over 2 full days, face to face or via video conference, which is 4 3 hour sessions over 4 days.   • Who do you provide MHFA training to?
    I deliver the training to employees within businesses and organisations and I have delivered training to Saint-Gobain and Educate Together Academies Trust. I will also deliver training to individuals as well through public courses, I require a minimum of 6 delegates and a maximum of 16 delegates.
  • How much do your courses cost?
    Please contact me to discuss the price, I want to deliver this training to as many people as possible, but I am aware of financial restrictions.
